Folding pedals have been around for many years, saving a bit of space while still remaining attached to the bike when folded—floppy and still able to scratch cars and bikes. Removable pedals are a newer concept, and Flatbike didn’t invent it. But while other manufacturers are hesitant to recommend their removable pedals for actual use —even going so far as to offer box warnings, such as “not for athletic purpose” or “not for use on indoor bikes”–Flatbike Pop-Off Pedals offer three levels of commitment to actual athletic use.

Two Latches Per Pedal

The Flatbike Pop-Off Pedal latch head “pinch system” is deceptively simple. Even though pedals can be removed in seconds with a one-handed pinch, both latches need to be depressed at the same time, or your pedal stays on. Redundant latching = no accidental releases.

Destruction Tested

At Flatbike, we believe in testing on robots before trying our products on people. So Flatbike Pop-Off Pedals have passed the ISO-4210 destruction test suite for mountain bikes, consisting of intensive tests for static strength, impact, and dynamic durability over 100,000 cycles.

Real-World Use

There’s a reason we started with big grippy pedals for mountain biking and e-bikes. Cross-country and trail mountain bikers have requirements for ability to withstand impacts and random stresses. E-bikers, meanwhile, have requirements for reliably handling bikes that can easily weight 70 pounds. Both of these uses are suitable for a large, cleated pedal.
